OUTFIT ART

You spend time choosing what to wear—why not spend a little time learning how to store your clothes right? Smart storage not only saves space but also keeps your clothes in great shape. Here’s how to do it:

Declutter Seasonally : Before storing anything, go through your clothes. Donate or recycle items you haven’t worn in a year. Keep only what fits and feels good.

Clean Before You Store : Always wash or dry clean clothes before long-term storage. Body oils, food stains, or sweat attract insects and can cause yellowing over time.

Invest in Quality Hangers : Use wooden or padded hangers for coats, suits, and delicate tops. Avoid thin wire hangers—they misshape shoulders and can rust.

Use Garment Bags (the Right Kind) : For long-term storage, use breathable cotton garment bags—not plastic. Plastic traps moisture and leads to mold or mildew.

Fold Heavy or Stretchy Clothes : Items like sweaters or knits should always be folded. Hanging them can lead to sagging or misshaped sleeves.

Keep It Cool and Dry : Avoid storing clothes in damp basements or hot attics. A consistent, mild temperature is ideal. Use moisture absorbers like silica gel or cedar to fight humidity.
